Seen as a whole, Burns’ timeless principles offer more than just the “big picture” of spiritual awakening. As you look at each truth, the real discovery is to see the character of God. When knowing Him is your personal prayer, revival stops being theoretical and starts becoming deeply personal.

The call to revival means coming to God daily just as you are. Coming to Him with all your baggage, knowing that He already knows what you’re carrying inside. It means coming to Him as one who’s been “damaged in shipment.” It means coming as a broken vessel in need of repair, a vessel that needs to be reshaped because it’s the only way to be strong enough to resist the hard knocks that the days ahead are sure to bring.

The call to revival is the call to come home: Come home from your impossible schedule that has left you out of breath and out of touch with God. Come home from the trivial diversions that have robbed you of time with the Lord. Come home from loud radio commercials, loud television shows, and other mindless chatter that keeps you from hearing God’s still, small voice. The call to awakening is a call to come to God as a child who has wandered from his or her loving parent. The call to spiritual awakening is to all believers who want to know they are forgiven, accepted, and loved again—as if for the first time.

Today a few people in our land have heard this call to a Jesus-Now Awakening. They are the ones who have been gripped by conviction, confession, and repentance. They are the men and women coming home to the Father they had once forgotten, ignored, or for whom they’ve simply been too busy. They are like a remnant in a dry season crying, “Oh God, move. Move in my nation. Move in me!”

Is this your voice? Is this your prayer? Do you want to know what it feels like to be alive again? Would you like to come home? Are you already standing on the doorstep to your part in this Jesus-Now Awakening?

Philippians 3:8-11 New King James Version (NKJV)
Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Zechariah 1:3 New King James Version (NKJV)
Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts.

Matthew 11:28 New King James Version (NKJV)
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
